    1. since no first grader has the ability to type on a keyboard with enough skill, I'd say all of them know what a pencil is.

  2. And then there were/are (?) those ginormous pencil sharpeners attached to the wall that, when you use them, sound like a freight train barreling through the room. Yeah, that would freak out your modern day kid.

    1. Probably not - but I use a mechanical pencil most every day to chart things.

  4. Sad but true. I hate pencils, for the record. I have one mechanical pencil that I use once a year, when my agent sends me the "final pass pages" of my book and I'm required to make corrections in pencil! That's it.

  5. Sadly, this is true. Both of my girls have horrible handwriting, and they've even done away with learning cursive in school.
